I was born in Tel Aviv, Pesach, 1944.  At age 12, I sang solo parts in the school choir. During that same year, I began singing on the High Holidays in the Gvurat Yisrael Synagogue (Tel Aviv) choir directed by my uncle, the well-known Tel Aviv cantor, Benjamin Ungar (of blessed memory)

In 1970, I learned the High Holiday liturgical melodies (Nusach) of the renowned liturgist, Rabbi Zalman Pollack. Those melodies serve as the foundation of my liturgical style as a prayer leader and cantor to this day.

My first High Holiday position was in 1969 in Tel Aviv.  Since then, I have served as cantor on Slichot night, Ma'ariv and Musaf for Rosh Hashanah – as well as Kol Nidrei, Musaf and Ne'ila on Yom Kippur.

During 1987-1988, I studied hazanut at the Heichal Shlomo Cantorial School, Jerusalem under the direction of the composer and conductor, Eli Yaffe.  My teachers included the internationally renowned cantors Moshe Stern, and Naftali Hershtik.  I was awarded a Cantor Artist certificate  from the then Israeli Chief Rabbi, Israel Meir Lau.

Since 1969, I have led prayers in Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and Kiryat Tiv'on. The High Holidays of 2007 marked my 20th year as main cantor in the Templo Beth-El Synagogue in Sao Paolo, Brazil, where I was accompanied by a choir of four male Israeli singers and conductor Alex Ashad.

During the year, I serve as cantor on Shabbat and Holidays, on a volunteer basis, in several synagogues, and of course, in the Beit El community where I live.

For the past fifteen years, I have been a member of "The Jerusalem Cantors Choir". Dr. Uri Aharon served as choir director until 2007 when he was replaced by Benjamin Glickman. I occasionally perform  solo pieces.

The choir performs in Israel and around the world.  We have performed in concerts and in Shabbat services in which I serve as cantor for Shabbat.

I have performed with Moshe Stern, Isaac Meir Helfgot, Ben Zion Miller, Israel Rand, Ya'akov Motzen, Yosef Malovany, Yehezkel Klang, and other cantors.

In addition, I have prepared and served as the host of a radio program on Channel 7 (Arutz Sheva) that ran since 1990.  This included Cantorial Sketches for a 50-minute program each week.  In this program, I play prayer selections of fine cantorial selections and provide background information and explanations of the works.  My program is presently available on the channel 7 Internet site: www.inn.co.il/radio/.

I would be happy to send recordings as requested.

I am about to release a new disc with seventeen cantorial segments, all of which I perform along with "The Jerusalem CantorsChoir" and The Beth El Synagogue Choir in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
There are also seven segments that were recorded in a professional sound studio.
The disk is produced by "NOAM HAFAKOT", JERUSALEM, Tel:  02-5374144
